As aromatherapy becomes more and more popular
in mainstream culture, we now can find an assortment of products at our
local supermarket and drug store. Aromatherapy products that smell good
and offer to make our personal environments smell good, too.
Yet, an educated aromatherapy consumer knows the
difference between products that ONLY smell good and those that smell
good AND make you feel good, too.
Of our 5 main senses, scientists understand the
least about how the sense of smell actually works. They know it’s
a membrane in our nasal cavity that has little receptors that are being
stimulated 24 hours a day and we can’t turn it off. It stays on
all the time. It’s part of our central nervous system and the only
place in the body where our central nervous system can come into direct
contact with the world outside. So each time we take a breath, we’re
sending input and data thru the olfactory sense to the central nervous
system directly to our brain. Our brain then acts upon the data and sends
messages to our body to react.
Think of our nasal/olfactory senses as
a superhighway to our brain. By using aromatherapy, we can quickly and
very powerfully get messages to our brain – messages that will
have the brain tell our body to help us when we need it, in the way we
want it in a non-addictive, non-pharmaceutical, and empowering way. Our
body is truly amazing!
Here's what is meant by intentionally sending messages on that superhighway
to our brain by using essential oils to help heal what ails us:
If you suffer from allergies, try Chamomile,
Lavender or Tea Tree oils.
If you have anxiety, then Jasmine or Patchouli can help.
Physically exhausted? Clove, Ginger, Marjoram, Rosemary,
Thyme, or Juniper may be the essential oils to use.
Try using Clary Sage, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemon, Patchouli,
Sandalwood or Ylang Ylang for help with depression.
Have the cold or flu? Then Cypress, Eucalyptus, Hyssop, Lavender,
Marjoram, Peppermint and Rosemary might help.
How about help with tension headaches or even migraines? Chamomile,
Eucalyptus, Lavender, Marjoram and Peppermint might be the oils to
use.
Are you nervous or feel restless? Then look at using Bergamot,
